The monastery keeps the national shrine of Catalonia - the statue of Our Lady of the XII century, which attracts pilgrims from around the world to the monastery. For its dark color, a 95-centimeter statue of black poplar in golden robes was called the Black Madonna.
At the monastery of Montserrat, there is one of the most ancient children's choirs in the world. The choir consists of 50 children, from 9 to 14 years old. The recruitment is made among children residing in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands or the Valencian Community. Living in a monastery, singers receive school education in parallel with music. They master the game of two musical instruments, vocals and choral singing. The choir participates in liturgy, but performs not only spiritual music, but also classics for choirs.

Хор мальчиков начинает петь в 13.00 (и в 18.45- если вы попали в Монсеррат вечером). Это если повезет- потому что хор часто гастролирует по миру и в монастыре бывает не всегда. Нам повезло. К статуе Черной Мадонны всегда очередь- минимум минут на 40 (и это в нетуристический сезон).
